The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) is a private, financially independent Portuguese institution that provides financial and strategic support for innovative projects. It was created in 1985 by the Portuguese government to create a private institution that would be constant, flexible and independent.
The Foundation is an active member of the main international foundations networks: the European Foundation Centre (EFC) in Brussels, the Council on Foundations, which gathers foundations operating in the US and the Bellagio Forum for Sustainable Development, a group of US and European grant-making foundations in the environmental area.
